The five Tea Trails bungalows are located between 2 km and 15km from each other, all in ideal settings for trekking and biking against the breathtaking backdrop of mountains, lakes, winding roads and waterfalls. This is perhaps the most famous region for Ceylon tea and one of the first areas to be planted after tea took over from coffee in Ceylon in the 1870’s.

The bungalows are equipped with everything you could possibly need to feel at home: elegant bedrooms, a cosy lounge and library with a help-yourself bar, a dining room and a view-toting veranda. Antique curios and knickknacks such as vintage crystal ware, gleaming gramophones, old-fashioned cameras and antique teapots decorate rooms and communal areas. Tea experience with the resident tea expert followed by picnic lunch

Visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. Here you could observe all about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded. Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. Tour led by a local planter and also learn how to pluck tea like a local.

Take a short walk up to a scenic spot nearby for a ‘planter’s picnic lunch’ with beautiful views of the surrounding hills, tea fields and the Castlereagh Reservoir.

Trekking the Trails: Discover a broad spectrum of biodiversity

In the company of a Trail Guide, walk or cycle (or both!) through various trails and explore the scenery of Sri Lanka's tea country. A broad spectrum of biodiversity exists in hill country - as the plantations are interspersed with forest patches that are home to a variety of biodiversity from endemic amphibians to birds and leopards. Your Naturalist will offer in-depth narrative to the surrounding flora and fauna, share insights on life on a working tea plantation, as well as interesting factoids on history and heritage that combined make for an informative experience.

Learn the basics of Sri Lankan cooking, from the range of spices and ingredients, to techniques and recipes behind the magic of island cuisine. Day 6: In Yala

Start of the morning with safari at Yala National Park

Originally a hunting ground for the British during colonial rule, Yala National Park's grassy plains and tangled forests are now a playground for a healthy leopard population. Yala hugs the island’s southeast coast creating a semi-arid environment, and its lagoons and beaches host a diverse range of birdlife. A protected area, Yala covers more than 900 sq km (378 sq miles), making it one of Sri Lanka's biggest national parks.

Your resort offers access to Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest national park which has the highest leopard population density in the world. Yala stuns visitors with its variety of biomes – monsoon, semi-deciduous and thorn forests, grasslands, freshwater, marine wetlands and sandy beaches where the only footprints you will see belong to foraging birds and animals. Broadcasting 44 different resident mammal species and dozens of reptile species including turtles, crocodiles, flying snakes and elegant fan-throated lizards. Yala has no less than 215 resident and migrant birds, of which the flamboyant peacock is one of the most common.

This is a more hands-on introduction to island fare. You will get to mix your own spices, season ingredients and cook your own lunch, under the watchful eye and instruction of one of the chefs. The experience is not a typical ‘demo’ but more an interactive learning experience on how to make some of the most popular dishes.

Spend the afternoon strolling around the Fort. First built in 1588 by the Portuguese, the Galle Fort was extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. Once a busy port, trading with Greece, China and Arab countries the Galle Fort is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument – a living and breathing UNESCO Heritage site with a colorful history, and a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population.
