Whale and Dolphin Watching
The Southern Coast of Sri Lanka is considered one of the best places in the world to see blue whales, often accompanied by sperm whales and large pods of spinner dolphins. Earth’s largest mammals, blue whales particularly favour the calm, krill-rich waters of Mirissa Bay, which is a just off Marissa village, a beautiful fishing village less than 45 minutes south of the historic sea side town of Galle. The best time to go whale watching in Mirissa is from November to April. The ocean is calm and whales migrate from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere, and chances of whale sighting are nearly 100% during this time. Mirissa has good modern yachts and catamarans available for whale watching, as well as friendly and knowledgeable wildlife guides.
